The Nigerian Community Association were recently awarded a grant of £4,570 to carry out youth basketball coaching. The group’s primary focus is supporting people, including but not limited to, people of Nigerian heritage and their families in order to strengthen and improve their skills in their current surroundings and build confidence within the local community of Aylesbury.

The need for a basketball club was identified after many parents struggled to find places for their children in the few clubs that are currently around.

Mahuya, community development advisor at Heart of Bucks recently visited the group to see the difference that’s being made with the funding:

It was lovely visiting the session, the children were enjoying playing so much and the volunteers really struggling to match their endless energy! Even the younger ones managed to handle the basketball skillfully. One volunteer said when some of them first started four weeks back, they couldn’t hold the ball properly and now they were scoring often. It was good to see how our support has brought this group of young people together to have fun and stay fit and healthy.
