Project: Future Proofing 1st Holtspur Scout Group
Grant: £5,000
Fund: Youthbank & HoB General

In June 2015, 1st Holtspur Scout Group were informed by Bucks County Council (BCC) that they would not be able to continue leasing the land on which their Scout Hut had stood for 66 years. BCC needed the land to build a new pre-school and they were in danger of losing their Scout Group.

Instead of giving up on their Scout group and members they began negotiations with the Council. They came to an agreement to surrender their lease early to allow BCC to start building a new purpose built pre-school, but with the inclusion of a first floor that the scout group could use as headquarters, allowing them to both carry on meeting and to expand the size of their scout group.

In a willingness to help keep costs to a minimum for BCC and to show community spirit they agreed to undertake some of the funding and fitting out of the new Scout headquarters.

Heart of Bucks was pleased to be able to support the Scout Group with a grant of £5,000 which contributed to fitting out the scout hut, including a new kitchen and hall with equipment storage.

The grand opening in May 2018 was performed by James Palin the Buckinghamshire County Commissioner for Scouting. The new hall has already enabled them to start a new Beaver Colony and a new Cub Pack, helping to meet some of the demand for scouting in the Beaconsfield area.
