Have you turned on your heating yet? We have been enjoying some mild autumnal weather, but temperatures are starting to drop and as a result many people are facing the difficult decision – to eat or to heat?
Thousands of local people are living in fuel poverty. In 2019, this figure was over 14,000 Buckinghamshire households. However, the current energy crisis will have a devastating impact on many more local families this winter and the figure is likely to be much higher.
The Heart of Bucks Winter Warmth appeal helps vulnerable people who struggle to keep warm in the cold months. In addition to granting money towards heating bills, donated funds could also be spent on warm winter clothing, supplies for homeless people such as sleeping bags, and items many people take for granted, such as a hot water bottle or a kettle.
Any donation, however small, can have a big impact on a struggling person or family this winter. The appeal also encourages those who receive the Winter Fuel Payment from the government, but are able to comfortably pay their bills, to think about donating it to help vulnerable people.
For the second year, Buckinghamshire resident Sir David Jason is supporting the Winter Warmth campaign by donating his Winter Fuel Payment.
Sir David said:
“More than ever, the Winter Warmth appeal will help many people in this difficult year of increased heating costs and so I am very happy to make a donation and help people in real need. This campaign makes it easy for others to do the same so that we can ease the worry for those desperately trying to cope. Let us all help out where we can.”
