On Tuesday 8th November, we were joined by the High Sheriff of Buckinghamshire, Debbie Brock and a number of our supporters for a ‘Seeing is Believing’ event. These events are an opportunity for us to visit some of the charities and community groups we are proud to support across the county.
The day began with a presentation from Robert Stringer, founder at Hector’s House, which aims to prevent suicide and mental health stigma through education, awareness and support. This charity was set up in memory of Hector Stringer who took his own life at the age of 18.
We then visited The Healthy Living Centre (HLC) in Walton Court, a charity that sadly announced it will be closing its doors on 1st April 2023. It was heart-warming to see the passion that has gone into running the HLC for 20 years, but this news highlights the struggles that many not-for-profit groups are facing in the current economic climate. HLC are working hard to move many of their support services to other local organisations to enable some continuity for the community.
Following this, we were welcomed to the Chilterns MS Centre in Wendover. We were given a tour of the amazing facilities and treatments that are available for people with MS and other conditions. We were also touched to hear from one of the charity’s trustees, whose late wife had been supported by the centre.
We ended the event with a presentation from Kath Pezet at Calibre Audio, a charity that provides free audiobooks for anyone who finds it difficult to read print.
