Proud as punch! Youngsters receive their Box Cleva awardsFebruary 16, 2016 2:17 pm
We recently had the pleasure of attending the Box Cleva awards evening in Aylesbury and were keen to find out how the grants awarded by Heart of Bucks and Vale of Aylesbury Housing Trust have helped to support Box Cleva. We were able to meet some of the young people, coaches and trustees that make Box Cleva possible and were even privileged enough to give out some of the awards.
Box Cleva is a multiple award winning charity that operates sporting and educational youth initiatives, centred on amateur boxing. The children and young people involved abide by the same rules an amateur boxer would whilst training, with the exception of sparring, as this is a non-contact initiative.
Running for one academic year, the children and young people take part in weekly sessions at Aylesbury Boxing Club that encourage discipline, respect, perseverance, fair play and fitness. In addition to this, healthy eating and drugs awareness sessions are also carried out in every programme.
The children and young people involved are referred to Box Cleva by their schools and other agencies, and may have behavioural problems, be playing truant or generally getting into trouble. From observing a session prior to the awards ceremony, we were able to appreciate the hard work that goes into making Box Cleva possible and took great pleasure in seeing the sense of achievement from those involved, as they went to collect their medal.Tags: children and young people, news, sport
