On Monday 18 July 2016 Families of Children United Support (FOCUS) celebrated 10 years as a charity supporting the residents of Saunderton Lodge. Over 30 guests, residents and members of FOCUS Saunderton Lodge enjoyed a celebratory afternoon tea. The Chair of FOCUS, Denys Williams, used this opportunity to thank, not only his staff but the other agencies and organisations that have enabled FOCUS carry out its work.

The charity runs a parenting programme and activities for the young residents.  The lodge has over 30 family units and there are about 90 residents there, many of them young parents and children. The charity has grown from one project worker to two trained parenting support workers and a secretary/playroom helper along with a dedicated team of volunteers.

Denys paid tribute to the staff, saying “they do a tremendous job” and made a special thank you to Hilary Bull who has been in charge of the lodge for over 30 years.

“Her inspirational leadership allied with her care and compassion for the residents singles her out as a very special person.”

Staff at Saunderton Lodge offer support, help, advice and encouragement to their residents, many of whom arrive at the Lodge at a very low point in their life.

“There is nothing glamorous about being homeless but they are surprised to receive a warm welcome, essential household items, bedding and food in the cupboard” says Denys.

At the event, Councillor Mahboob Hussain congratulated Denys and his team for their work over the past 10 years supporting the residents at Saunderton Lodge and announced that he has made volunteering his theme for the year as Chair of the Council.

FOCUS recently received a donation through Heart of Bucks from our Kop Hill Climb fund, which will be used to support the running costs of the organisation.
